10. Windows XP secara otomatis akan me-highlight setiap program baru yang ter-install. Cara menghilangkannya, klik kanan Start|Properties. Masuk ke tab Start Menu|Customize, kemudian klik tab Advanced dan hilangkan tanda centang pada opsi Highlight newly installed program.

11. Untuk tampilan film atau game terbaik pada komputer, pastikan bahwa DirextX terbaru sudah terinstalasi dengan baik. Lihat versi terbarunya di www.microsoft.com/windows/directx.

15. Gunakan pengecualian pada security setting di Internet Explorer, agar proses update melalui halaman Windows Update berjalan lancar. Caranya, buka Internet Option di menu Tools pada Internet Explorer. Klik tab Security, pilih Trusted Site dan klik tombol Sites. Isikan nama situs Windows Update, hilangkan tanda centang pada option Require server verification… dan klik OK.

16. Jika Anda kehilangan serial number Windows XP, gunakan freeware Magical Jelly Bean Keyfinder dari http://www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder.shtml.

17. Jika nama yang teregister dalam Windows XP Anda tidak sesuai, perbaiki melalui registry. Caranya, buka registry dan pilih MY Computer. Klik menu Edit|Find dan ketik RegOwner. Jika sudah ditemukan, klik kanan, pilih Modify dan isikan nama yang sesuai. Perubahan ini bisa juga dilakukan di key RegCompany.

18. Untuk men-share sebuah folder di komputer Anda ke jaringan, klik kanan folder tersebut dan pilih Properties. Klik tab Sharing dan enable option Share this folder on the network. Beri nama dan klik OK.

19. Buat sebuah icon My Network Places di desktop dengan mengklik kanan area kosong di dekstop dan klik Properties. Pilih tab Desktop|Customize Desktop. Kemudian buka tab General dan enable option My Network Places.

37. Ubah gambar pada welcome screen dengan cara masuk ke User Account di Control Panel. Buka account Anda dan klik Change my picture. Tentukan gambar pilihan Anda dengan mengklik Browse untuk gambar di harddisk atau memilih di antara gambar yang sudah tersedia.

38. Jika lebih menyukai tampilan Start Menu versi lama, Anda bisa mengubahnya dengan mengklik kanan tombol Start, pilih Properties. Pilih Classic Start Menu dan klik Customize untuk mengatur isinya.

44. Tambahkan address bar pada taskbar, sehingga mempercepat akses ke sebuah alamat di Internet. Caranya, klik kanan taskbar, pilih Toolbar|Address. Klik ganda untuk membuka dan menutupnya.

45. Jadikan tampilan Windows Explorer seperti tampilan pada window My Computer. Caranya, klik kanan icon Window Explorer dan pilih Properties. Pada Target area, setelah %SystemRoot%\explorer.exe tambahkan /n, /e, /select, C:\ dan klik OK.

46. Untuk menambahkan sebuah shortcut program di baris paling atas Start Menu, klik kanan icon-nya di Start Menu kemudian klik Pin to Start Menu.

47. Supaya sebuah drive atau folder dapat masuk dalam menu Send To, drag shortcut-nya ke folder \Documen Anda Setting\\SendTo.

48. Mencari folder SendTo? Klik saja Start|Run dan ketik SendTo kemudian klik OK.

Supaya koneksi dial-up tetap berjalan meski Fast User Switching di-enable, masuk ke registry di direktori HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon. Klik kanan pada panel sebelah kanan dan pilih New |String Value. Beri nama KeepRasConnections dan beri nilai 1. Restart komputer.

51. Untuk melihat isi sesungguhnya folder My Recent Documents, klik Start|Run, kemudian ketikkan %UserProfile%\Recent. Pengaturan Multiple User

52. Untuk berpindah antar user account, tekan tombol Ctrl+Alt+Del, kemudian pada window Task Manager yang terbuka, pilih tab Users. Klik kanan nama user yang hendak dipakai dan klik tombol Connect.

53. Tambahkan account Guest supaya orang lain bisa menggunakan komputer Anda. Caranya, buka User Accounts di Control Panel, klik Guest|Turn On the Guest Account.

55. Untuk meng-copy user profile, masuk dalam Control Panel|System. Masuk dalam tab Advance dan klik tombol Setting di User Profiles. Sorot profile yang hendak dicopy, kemudian klik Copy to dan tentukan lokasi penyimpanan profile. Untuk mengubah permission, klik tombol Change.

56. Ganti Welcome screen dengan login dialog untuk menambah tingkat keamanan. Caranya, masuk dalam User Accounts di Control Panel, pilih option Change the way user log on or off serta disable Welcome screen.

57. Gunakan folder Shared Documents untuk menyimpan filefile yang bisa dibuka orang lain dalam jaringan. Folder ini bisa ditemui di My Documents\Other Places area.

58. Pada Windows XP Pro Edition, password bisa kadaluarsa jika lama tidak digunakan login. Untuk menghindarinya, atur supaya Windows tidak melakukan hal tersebut. Caranya, klik Start|Run, ketikkan userpasswords2 dan Enter. Buka tab Advanced dan pilih Advanced user management, klik tombol Advanced dan pilih Local Users and Groups. Klik kanan nama user dan pilih Properties. Buka tab General dan enable option Password never expires.

59. Beri nama setiap partisi atau drive yang ada dengan nama yang berbeda. Hal ini penting untuk mempermudah pencarian file.

60. Buat sebuah password reset disk sebagai disket darurat saat kehilangan password. Caranya, masuk ke Control Panel dan buka User Account. Pilih account Anda dan pilih Prevent a forgotten password untuk memulai wizard. Pengaturan File dan Folder

61. Buat sebuah compressed folder dengan cara mengklik kanan area kosong pada desktop, dan pilih New|Compressed (zipped) Folder. Beri nama dan drag and drop file yang hendak dikompres dalam folder tersebut.

64. Saat menjalankan Disk Cleanup, pilih option Compress old files untuk mengompresi file-file yang sudah tidak dibutuhkan, sehingga kapasitas harddisk bisa dihemat.

65. Enkrip atau acak file bisa dilakukan di Windows XP Pro Edition dengan mengklik kanan My Computer, pilih Properties. Buka tab General dan klik Advanced. Aktifkan option Encrypt contents to secure data.

66. Cara termudah mengubah nama file atau folder adalah dengan memilihnya, kemudian menekan tombol F2.

67. Supaya Anda bisa berpindah antar folder dengan cepat, terutama pada folder-folder yang sering dibuka, buatlah shortcut untuk setiap folder yang sering diakses.

68. Reset file association dengan cara menhakan tombol Shift saat mengklik kanan sebuah file. Pilih Open With… Pilih program yang hendak Anda gunakan untuk membuka file tersebut dan enable option Open use the selected program to open this kind of file. Kemudian klik OK.

69. Sesuaikan kapasitas penyimpanan file musik dengan cara membuka Windows Media Player dan memilih menu Tools|Options. Buka tab Copy Music dan sesuaikan ukuran kapasitas dengan menggeser slider.

70. Jika Anda menyimpan semua dokumen dalam folder My Documents, maka semua file tersebut lebih mudah di-back-up serta tidak terpengaruh system restore.

71. Jika sebuah file hasil copy dari CD tidak dapat diakses, maka hilangkan atribut Read only. Caranya, klik kanan file tersebut dan pilih Properties. Hilangkan tanda centang pada option Read only.

72. Aturlah tampilan setiap folder dengan mengklik kanan folder tersebut pada My Computer. Pilih Properties dan klik Customize. Pilih template yang tersedia atau pilih gambar sesuai dengan keinginan Anda. Klik OK untuk menyimpan hasil setting.

73. Anda bisa me-rename beberapa file sekaligus yang memiliki karakter sama dalam folder yang sama juga. Misalnya kumpulan foto atau image. Caranya, pilih semua file yang hendak di-rename, klik kanan file pertama dan klik Rename. 97. Anda bisa meng-enable atau disable grouping beberapa file dalam satu program. Caranya, klik kanan taskbar dan pilih Properties. Beri atau hilangkan tanda centang pada option Groups similar taskbar button.

101. Anda bisa membuka sebuah situs tanpa membuka browser terlebih dahulu. Caranya, ketikkan alamat lengkap situs yang hendak dibuka di kotak dialog Start|Run. Misalnya www.pcmedia.co.id. Kemudian tekan Enter.

102. Di setiap menu dalam Windows terdapat huruf yang bergaris bawah sebagai patokan penggunaan navigasi keyboard. Misalnya menu File bisa dibuka dengan menekan tombol Alt+F. Anda bisa menonaktifkan atau mengaktifkan fitur yang ditandai dengan garis bawah ini. Caranya, klik kanan area kosong di desktop. Kemudian buka tab Appereance, dan klik tombol effects. Atur tanda centang pada option Hide underlined letter for keyboard navigation until I press the [Alt] key.

103. Atur supaya komputer mengeluarkan suara peringatan saat tombol Caps Lock, Num Lock atau Scroll Lock diaktifkan. Caranya, Buka Control Panel, masuk dalam Accessibility Option. Buka tab Keyboard dan enable option Use Toggle-Keys.

104. Untuk meng-enable Hibernate dalam Windows XP saat menekan Turn Off di Start Menu, tahan tombol Shift. Maka tombol Stand by pada kotak dialog Shut Down akan berubah menjadi Hibernate.

105. Jika hardware Anda support Hibernate, aktifkan segera fitur ini. Caranya, buka Control Panel dan buka Power Options. Klik tab Hibernate dan beri tanda centang pada option Enable Hibernate. Jika hardware Anda tidak support Hibernate, tab ini tidak bisa ditemui. Memperbaiki Kinerja Komputer

106. Tambah kecepatan komputer Anda dengan menghilangkan penampakan yang bagus namun memakan banyak waktu, yakni animasi. Caranya, buka Control Panel, dan klik ganda System. Klik tab Advanced dan tekan tombol Performance Settings. Kemudian enable option Adjust for the best performance.

107. Untuk mengurangi waktu booting yang terasa lama, atur di BIOS agar booting dimulai dari harddisk baru kemudian CD atau floppy drive pada pilihan berikutnya.

108. Atur supaya Windows hanya akan me-load program yang dibutuhkan saja saat mulai berjalan supaya waktu loading lebih cepat dan kerja komputer lebih ringan. Ketikkan “msconfig” tanpa tanda petik di kotak dialog Run dan tekan Enter. Pada tab General, pilih option Selective Startup, kemudian buka tab Startup dan nonaktifkan semua program yang tidak perlu.

109. Anda bisa memonitor penggunaan processor dengan menekan tombol Ctrl+Alt+Del untuk membuka Task Manager. Kemudian minimize window tersebut, Anda akan melihat grafik penggunaan kapasitas processor di system tray.

110. Untuk meningkatkan kecepatan menyimpan data di USB ZIP drive, buka My Computer dan klik kanan drive ZIP tersebut. Pilih Properties, buka tab Hardware klik Properties, kemudian buka tab Policies dan aktifkan option Optimize for Performance.

111. Untuk mempercepat tampilan Start Menu, buka Registry Editor (ketikkan “regedit” tanpa tanda petik di kotak dialog Run). Masuk dalam direktori HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop. Klik ganda value yang bernama MenuShowDelay, ganti angka yang ada menjadi 100. Dengan cara ini, maka delay tampilan Start Menu semakin singkat.

112. Ada cara cepat mematikan komputer. Tekan tombol Ctrl+Alt+Del, pada windows Task Manager yang muncul, tekan menu Shut Down dan tahan tombol Ctrl saat mengklik Turn Off. Pastikan dulu semua dokumen telah di-save.

113. Anda bisa melihat grafis yang menampilkan performance komputer berdasarkan beberapa indikator. Misalnya penggunaan processor, memory, dan lain sebagainya. Caranya, buka Control Panel dan klik ganda Administrative Tools. Buka fitur Performance.

114. Anda juga bisa menambahkan beberapa indikator lain dalam fitur Performance (di nomer 13) dengan mengklik icon + dan memilih indikator baru apa saja yang hendak ditampilkan.

115. Anda bisa menggabungkan sebuah file registry atau .reg ke dalam registry Windows Anda, dengan mengklik ganda file tersebut. Untuk mengetahui fungsinya, buka dengan notepad.

116. Jika Anda menggunakan RAM sebesar 512 MB, atur agar Windows tidak membuat paging ke disk agar performance komputer semakin meningkat. Caranya, buka Registry Editor dan masuk dalam direktory HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM|Current ControlSet\Control\SessionManager\MemoryManagement. Ubah value DisablePagingExecutive menjadi 1.

117. Gunakan Bootcfg.exe untuk mengedit boot.ini Windows XP. Caranya, ketikkan “cmd” tanpa tanda petik dalam kotak dialog Run untuk masuk dalam DOS Prompt, dan ketikkan bootcfg: /? setelah muncul prompt untuk memperoleh informasi mengenai fitur dalam program ini.

118. Untuk memilih operating system dalam yang digunakan dalam sebuah komputer yang memiliki partisi drive, buka Control Panel, masuk dalam System kemudian buka tab Advanced. Klik tombol Startup and Recovery Setting kemudian Edit.

119. Gunakan utility klasik chkdsk untuk men-scan harddisk dan memperbaiki error yang ditemui. Caranya, klik Start |Run dan ketikkan “chkdsk c:/f” tanpa tanda petik untuk men-scan dan memperbaiki drive C. Jika Anda ingin tahu lebih banyak tentang fitur dalam chkdsk, ketikkan “chkdsk /?”.

120. Anda bisa melewati Scanner and Camera Wizard saat memasang kamera digital. Untuk mengaksesnya, gunakan Windows Explorer atau My Computer. Kamera digital Anda akan tampil sebagai drive.

121. Ada utility dalam Windows XP Pro Edition yang jarang digunakan, yakni gpedit. Jalankan utility ini dengan mengetikkan “gpedit.msc” tanpa tanda petik di kotak dialog Run dan tekan Enter. Utility ini bisa digunakan untuk setiap tool dan komponen yang ada di Windows. Coba satu per satu setting yang Anda inginkan kemudian perhatikan hasilnya.

122. Mengatur Jadwal Perawatan Daripada bersusah payah membersihkan sampah di Windows, atur agar Windows membersihkan dirinya sendiri secara berkala dengan Schedule Task. Untuk mengatur jadwal perawatan Windows secara berkala, buka Control Panel, klik ganda Scheduled Tasks. Tambahkan Scheduled Task melalui wizard. Klik Next untuk masuk dalam list berisi program yang bisa dijadwalkan. Jika tool yang hendak Anda jadwalkan tidak tertera pada list, klik Browse dan arahkan ke folder tempat tool yang Anda maksud berada. Kebanyakan tool Windows berada dalam folder Windows\system32. Pilih salah satu dan klik Open. Ketik nama task tersebut dan tentukan tingkat keseringan atau frekuensi jadwal program tersebut. Klik Next, atur setting lain yang diperlukan dan tambahkan username beserta password untuk mengamankan Schedule Task.

123. Gunakan utility gratis PowerToys dari www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/home/downloads/powertoys.asp yang sangat berguna. PowerToys sendiri terdiri dari beberapa program, di antaranya Open Command Window Here, Alt-Tab Replacement, Tweak UI, Power Calculator, Image Resizer, CD Slide Show Generator, Virtual Desktop Manager,Taskbar Magnifier, HTML Slide Show Wizard, dan Webcam Timershot.

124. Windows Anda bisa memperoleh tambahan kecepatan jika Indexing Service dinonaktifkan. Caranya mudah, buka Administrative Tools di Control Panel, pilih Services dan disable Indexing Service.

125. Kembangkan kapasitas harddisk dengan menggunakan Disk Cleanup. Buka My Computer, klik kanan drive yang ada dan pilih Properties. Buka tab General dan klik tombol Disk Cleanup. Bersihkan semua file sampah tersebut, termasuk mengosongkan isi Recycle Bin dari semua data yang sudah tidak digunakan lagi.

126. Hilangkan semua shortcut di folder Startup dalam Start Menu. Sebab, program yang memiliki shortcut dalam folder ini secara otomatis akan dieksekusi saat kali pertama Windows dijalankan.

127. Periksa setting messenger yang ada dalam komputer Anda, karena hampir setiap messenger akan me-load dirinya sendiri secara otomatis setiap kali Windows dijalankan. Usahakan agar option Automatically Login atau Load at Windows Start tidak aktif.

130. Cari tahu apakah drive Anda FAT atau NTFS dengan mengklik kanan drive tersebut dan memilih Properties kemudian masuk ke tab General. Baca detail file system pada kotak dialog yang muncul.

Save it some where easy to find, for example “C:\pictures” or “C:\Windows\thecenterofhell\system\system32\system64\system128\???” although I don’t recommend the second one.
Open Xara3D 5.xx, press “Alt+T” or click on the “T” button on the LEFT PANEL erase all of the text in the window that pops up then press ok.

Press “Alt+U” or click on the yellow “U” surrounded in gray on the LEFT PANEL, check the “button” box and select a desire button type and leave this option window open you will need it again.

Press the “At+X” or click the black “X” on the LEFT PANEL, click “load texture” in the pop up window, find the picture you made/adjusted and highlight it then click open or just double-click it. Use the “size, x, y, angle” sliders to adjust the picture or “texture” and in the “button options” windows use the “stretch, corners”(corners, only if using this option you can adjust) to adjust the button size.

Frames per cycle: This is the number of frames for each complete cycle through the animation sequence. The greater the number of frames the smoother the animation. The drawback is that the file is bigger - this is a big disadvantage for web graphics. You may need to try different values to get the best results.
Frames per second: The animation speed. Slow speeds can give jerky movement. High speeds can also give jerky movement as the program displaying the animation may not be able to keep up. Again you may need to try different values.
Pause: This pauses the first frame before continuing the rest of the animation. Type in a value in centiseconds (1/100ths of a second) - a 2 second pause is 200 cs. Note that this applies only to the first frame; use Frames per cycle and Frames per second to control the overall speed of the animation.
Loop Value: Unchecked is Infinite, Any other value see for yourself. Lmao
Loop: This lets you specify how many times the animation should repeat itself. Note that some browsers take any value other than 1 to mean 'loop forever'. Therefore, your animation either plays once or forever.
Style: This controls the type of animation:
Rotate 1 rotates all the text as one; Rotate 2 rotates each character. (Buttons have a single Rotate option.) Rotate text/Rotate lights - select whether you want the text to rotate or the lights or both. You cannot rotate the shadow as this would create very large files. Direction - selects the direction of rotation.

Swing options: Swing 1 swings all the text as one; Swing 2 swings each character. (Buttons have a single Swing option.) Angle - how much you want the heading to swing.

Pulsate options: Pulsate 1 pulsates all the text as one; Pulsate 2 pulsates each character. (Buttons have a single Pulsate option.) Minimum text size - how far back to pulsate the text. Shrink+Grow & Grow+Shrink - only have an effect if you Pause the animation. These options select the starting point for the animation (maximum or minimum.)
Fade options: Fade in - the heading emerges from the background color. Fade out - the heading merges into the background color. SO AFTER PICKING ONE………………..

On the top left go to FILE>>>EXPORT ANIMATION or press “Ctrl+Shift+X” and save in desired location.

Because Animated GIFs can be quite large, you may find that a 16 or 32 color, optimized palette per frame, produces the best results for the smallest file size. However you might need to experiment.
Dithering always makes GIFs look better, but also makes them larger. When outputting at 256 colors you may find that there is no need to turn dithering on.
Current Window Size lets you export just the area surrounding the text (Crop on) or the entire window area (Crop off.)
User Defined lets you specify the dimensions of the bitmap.

how to make a VCD from a DivX

Tools required: Latest Virtual dub, TMPGEnc and Nero ( and the DivX codecs.)

Preparing:
Download all tools, Be sure to install DivX 3.11 DivX4 and the latest DivX5 codecs.
Extracting the audio : Start Virtualdub. Open your video File->Open video file.(if you get any warnings just ignore them because you won't edit the video just extract the audio)
Select File->File Information and note the fps as the video source fps because you will need it later.
Select under Audio->Full processing mode.
Select Audio->Compression and select
Select Audio->Conversion.
Change the the Sampling rate to 44100Hz if you are going to make VCD or SVCD MPEGs.
Save the wav by clicking on File->Save WAV...the wav will be a huge audio uncompressed video file(about 10 MB/minute.

Encoding:
Start TMPEnc. Press cancel if the Project Wizard comes.
Press Browse… and select the DivX file as Video source input.
Now you press the Browse button for choosing the Audio source input and use the saved wav file.
Press load and load the file which in the Template directory of TMPGenc.
If the video source fps is 29,970 load VideoCD (NTSC).mcf
If the video source fps is 23,970 load VideoCD (NTSCFilm).mcf
If the video source fps is 25,000 load VideoCD (PAL).mcf
If the video source fps is anything else else just load NTSC if you live in US or Japan and PAL if you live anywhere else.
Note if you live in US or Japan and get problem playing PAL, often causing black and white TV playback problems, then first check if you can change to PAL on your TV or DVD Player if not then instead convert it to NTSC by loading the VideoCD(NTSC) template.

Press Settings and choose Advanced.
Select Full screen (keep aspect ratio) under Video arrange method to keep the same aspect ratio(widescreen,fullscreen) as the video source(if you have a widescreen movie and you want it to be in fullscreen select No margin(keep aspect ratio).

Select Source range and double-click on it with the mouse.
In the next dialog you can choose the source range. This process depends on the DivX file. If the DivX file is less than 80min (for a 80min/700mb CDR) then you do not have to split the file to two CDs. Also if the DivX file is already in two parts you have just to convert the first file and then the second. But if there should be the case that the movie is in one file over 80minutes long then it is necessary to select the source range. In this new dialog you put the horizontal scrollbar to the middle of the selection so that you will get the same length on the first CD as on the second. After you selected the middle do you have press Set end frame. A new value should be under End Frame. This value you should notice somewhere for the encoding of the second part. Of course the start frame must be 0.
After pressing ok, you only have to select the output file name. I prefer the movie name with the CD number (e.g. Ghost in the Shell CD1) for the burning.

Now encode the file by pressing the Start-Button.
While encoding you can select File->Preview(it won't effect the encoding) to see how the output will be, it it looks wrong(widescreen or fullscreen) you can stop the encoding and start over and change especially the Settings->Advanced->Video arange method.)
If you only want to burn the movie on one CD jump to the burning guide else follow the next points.

Repeat the third, forth and fifth point. In the source range dialog you now use as Start frame the noticed value and move with the horizontal scrollbar to the end of the movie.
After pressing Set end frame, press two times OK.

Now select the output filename for the second file. (e.g. Ghost in the Shell CD2) and encode it.
After the encoding is done and you did all right, you should have for every CD a file.

Burning:
Launch Nero.Close the Wizard. Select File->New.

Select VideoCD
Select PAL or NTSC depending what format your source MPEG is in.
And hit New.

Locate your .mpg and drag it(see picture below). Remember that you can add several .mpgs also, each mpg will be a own track on the VCD and you can add data files also, just drag them to any folder.
Check the time. It should be the same as in the movie.
Rename the CD to anything you like by clicking F2 on NEW.
Select File->Write CD.

don't know about everyone else.. but the only options i choose on tmpgenc to make mpeg-1 files are either NTSC film 23.976, or NTSC video 29.97 fps..

I also live in the u.s. so i do all of mine accordingly.. why do you save the wave file with virtual dub.. or should i say, why do you even process the divx file with vdub.. yeah if it is your last resort and the divx for some reason doesn't open in tmpgenc.. i've got 180+ Divx movies, some downloaded mostly ripped, never had a problem encoding them with tmpgenc plus.

just seems like you are going from your a$$ to your elbow to do this.

take divx movie (120 minutes long for example).. open with vdub.. find a keyframe about halfway through the film, preferrably at a scene change.

choose "SET SELECTION START" from the EDIT menu.. scroll all the way to the end of the film, choose "SET SELECTION END"... hit DELETE or choose "DELETE SELECTION", all from the EDIT menu

Now you have 1 half of your movie. under the VIDEO menu, choose "DIRECT STREAM COPY", also make sure that under AUDIO is going to generate a "DIRECT STREAAM COPY". Then go to FILE and choose "SAVE as AVI..."

on a newer computer this will take less than 2 minutes..

When it is complete, the quickest way to proceed is to just click on FILE / "OPEN VIDEO FILE". at the beginning of the clip, choose "SET SELECTION START" again, snap back to the keyframe (half way through the film) which you cut half the film off at and choose "SET SELECTION END". DELETE... FILE / "SAVE AS AVI..." save as the other half of film..

Once again, will usually take less than 2 minutes...

Choose option accordingly, this next part can be important.. (i'm going to give the rest of the instructions as if you were making ntsc movie)

since you want to make a standard mpeg-1 file, choose NTSC FILM or NTSC VIDEO.. BROWSE for your file, then hit NEXT, then it OTHER SETTINGS / ADVANCED tab ... now there is an option that says "VIDEO ARRANGE METHOD".. if you are making a fullscreen movie, lleave on FULLSCREEN.. if you are encoding a widescreen movie, choose "FULL SCREEN (KEEP ASPECT RATIO).. OK / NEXT / NEXT (you get the point)

basically takes 1 step out of the tutorial above.. the instructions for nero appear to be correct.. but here's another tip..
dvd burners are becoming more and more popular and even i got one now, like many of you do. tired of old vcd's or wanna encode a VCD standard DVD with nearly 9 hours of video (but same quality as normal 80 minute VCD),
if this is the case, make sure you encode your DivX files as "NTSC VIDEO 29.97 FPS".. even if source is 23 fps... and once you have 3 or 4 movies, get yourself a proggy called TMPGENC DVD AUTHOR.. make a track for each movie.. and you got yourself a dvd with 3 or 4 average length movies on 1 dvd (with menus if you like) that is WAY MORE COMPATIBLE than a VCD..

How to copy songs from your iPod to your PC

A reader points out a straightforward way for Windows users to transfer music from an iPod to your hard drive, without extra software:

Connect the iPod to your PC. If iTunes starts syncing (ie erasing) your music automatically, hit the X in the upper right hand corner of iTunes display, to the left of the search box, to stop it.
In Control Panel, Portable Media Devices, double-click your iPod.
Navigate to the Music folder.
Select all the music folders, and drag and drop them into a folder on your hard drive, or directly into iTunes.

And you’re done! The iPod music folder structure is strange and inexplicable, but once you move your files into iTunes you can set it to automatically organize your folder by artist and album to clean that up. (To do this, in iTunes Edit menu, choose Preferences and in the Advanced tab, check “Keep iTunes Music Folder organized.”)

If you give this a go, lemme know how it goes. I’ll ammend the instructions with any additional info for other versions of Windows and iPods.

Just for the record, I did not write this article, but I would have known how to do this. But one thing I ahve noticed is that you do not need to go into the control panel. First of all, this tweak only apply to those who only have one HDD on their primary IDE channel (nothing else on device 0 or 1) and a CD-ROM and/or DVD-ROM on the secondary IDE channel. Each time you boot Windows XP, there's an updated file called NTOSBOOT-*.pf who appears in your prefetch directory (%SystemRoot%Prefetch) and there's no need to erease any other files as the new prefetch option in XP really improves loading time of installed programs. We only want WindowsXP to boot faster and not decrease its performance. Thanks to Rod Cahoon (for the prefetch automation process...with a minor change of mine) and Zeb for the IDE Channel tweak as those two tricks, coupled together with a little modification, result in an EXTREMELY fast bootup:

Okay, these are some methods to backup PS2 titles and Xbox titles, in order to play a backup you need a modchip of some sort, I have also included a tutorial on boot methods. Follow any one of these instructions to fit your needs. You can tell what format the PS2 title is by looking at the written side of the disc, DVD's are Silver and CD's are Purple. The DVD backup methods here consist of reading the image to the hard drive then burning it to the media for an easier backup, this depends on your hardware and it?s setup. I say that because the proper setup would be to have the Reader and Writer on separate IDE cables. This allows no cross information when doing Disc to Disc/On the fly copying. But, since most people would not know how to check or fix this, I suggest reading the image to your Hard Drive and then burning from there. *A little useful trick*, If the DVD backup "image" is small enough in size you can fit it onto a CD-R (80 minute or larger if need be) instead of using a more expensive DVD-R. I have done this succesfully using Prassi and the first tutorial for it below. In addition a DVD Movie backup will play on a PS2/Xbox without a chip. As I get more info I will update. Dexter

Using CloneCD (v4.x.xx) for PS1/PS2

Start CloneCD
Select "Copy CD"
Select your Reader, press Next
Select "Game CD", press Next
Select/Deselect your options here (on the fly, cue or delete) then press Next

Select your burn speed and "Game CD"
Press "OK" to begin

Using Alcohol 120% for PS1/PS2

Start Alcohol 120%

Using Prassi

Start Primo
Select "go to full application"
Right Click the drive that has your original in it
Select "build global image" and choose a path for the image (preferably on an NTFS opsys)
After the image is extracted go to next step
Choose the 3rd disc icon from the left *or* click file, new job, Global/Other Image
Then just burn the .gi (global image) of the game

This next way has one less step which saves some time because once you press record it does everything by itself (if you have a DVD reader and DVD Writer)

Start Primo
Use the "PrimoDVD Starter" (it's easier, and less confusing)
Choose "disc copy"
Select your Reader and Also your Writer
Select "make a temp image on HD..."
Select your burn speed and then record to begin

Using Nero

Start Nero, Use the Wizard (for easy use)

XBOX backup tutorials

Xbox original games are burned from the outside in. The only way to backup a title is to have a modchip like X-exuter (best), Enigma, or Xodus/Matrix. You also have to flash the bios and have a CD program inserted or installed into the X-Box named EVO-X (this allows you to assign the X-Box an IP address). The game has to be stored on the X-Box's HD, this allows you to file transfer the title to your PC using an ftp program like FlaxhFXP (best) or similar. From there you use a burning application to make the backup. Some applications allows you to "drag & drop" right from the Xbox or you can build an ISO of the image then burn to CD-R/W or DVD-R/W backup. (I will update this to show steps as soon as I have a minute)

Modded PS2 with or without Action Replay/GameShark CD & DVD backup booting methods

PS2 with NeoKey/Sbox & AR/GS, PS1 CD backup booting

Turn on PS2 and NeoKey/Sbox
Press Eject

Would you like to be able to right click any folder in Explorer and print its contents? You can add this option to the context menu by following these steps:

First, you need to create a batch file called Printdir.bat. Open Notepad or another text editor and type (or cut and paste) this text:

Now, in the Save As dialog box, type "%windir%\Printdir.bat" (without the quotation marks) and click the Save button.

Click the File Types tab, and then click File Folder.
Click the Advanced button.
Click the New button.

In the Action box, type "Print Directory Listing" (without the quotation marks).
In the Application used to perform action box, type "Printdir.bat" (without the quotation marks).
Click OK in all three dialog boxes to close the dialog boxes.
You're not quite finished yet! Now you need to edit the Registry, so open your favorite Registry Editor.

Navigate to HKEY CLASSES ROOT\Directory\shell.
Right click on "default" and select Modify.
In the File Data box, type "none" (without the quotation marks).
Click OK and close the Registry Editor.

Now when you right click a folder, you'll see the option to Print Directory Listing. Selecting it will print the contents of the folder.

You can add an Internet URL address bar to your Windows XP taskbar. Doing so will let you type in URLs and launch Web pages without first launching a browser. It will also let you launch some native Windows XP applications in much the same way as you would via the Run menu (so you could type in calc to launch the calculator or mspaint to launch Microsoft Paint. Here's how you add the address bar:

Right-click on the taskbar, select Toolbars, and then click Address.
The word Address will appear on your taskbar.
Double click it to access it.
If that doesn't work, your taskbar is locked. You can unlock it by right-clicking on the taskbar again and uncheck Lock the Taskbar.

This is an easy way to get to the folders on your system without having to open a Windows Explorer Window every time you want to access files. I find it very useful to have this feature as it allows me to access my Folders and Drives immediately and saves me a lot of time.

This works in Windows XP:

Right Click an empty spot on your Taskbar (Between your Start Button and your System Tray).
Click Toolbars.
Click New Toolbar.
A Small Window will Open that allows you to pick the folder you wish to make a toolbar. If you want to access your Desktop Without having to minimize all your windows. Just Pick Desktop. If you want to access ONLY your My Documents Folder, Select that. Any folder will work for this.
Click OK.

The New Tool bar will appear at the bottom of your screen next to your System Tray.

If you find this to be not useful, Repeat Steps 1 and 2 and then check click the Toolbar you created that has a check mark next to it. And it will disappear.

Notebook atau sering disebut juga laptop adalah komputer kecil yang dapat dibawa kemana-mana oleh yang memilikinya. Mobilitas yang tinggi bagi seorang pekerja merupakan alasan utama dalam mempertimbangkan pembelian sebuah notebook. Bagi sejumlah kalangan yang banyak menghabiskan waktunya di luar kantor, memiliki notebook sudah menjadi sebuah keharusan. Namun memilih notebook yang tepat sesuai dengan kebutuhan dan anggaran bukan hal yang mudah. Banyaknya pilihan yang tersedia di pasaran bisa jadi membuat kita tambah bingung memilihnya.

Kriteria terpenting dalam memilih notebook adalah untuk apa notebook tersebut digunakan. Apakah notebook yang dibeli untuk menggantikan PC desktop yang dimiliki atau untuk dibawa-bawa dalam perjalanan? Perbedaan penggunaan notebook ini akan menentukan notebook yang sebaiknya dipilih. Untuk alasan yang kedua, bobot serta daya tahan batere akan menjadi prioritas yang utama, meskipun harus mengorbankan sedikit fasilitas dan kenyamanan.

Secara umum notebook dibedakan dalam tiga kategori, yaitu all-in-one atau pengganti desktop, mainstream dan ultraportabel. Notebook all-in-one (desktop replacement) memiliki bobot 3 - 4,5 kg, lebih berat dibandingkan notebook-notebook di kelas lainnya. Pemakai notebook ini lebih mengutamakan kelengkapan fasilitas dan kinerja sebuah desktop sehingga bobot bukan menjadi pertimbangan yang utama. Sementara notebook-notebook ultraportabel yang lebih ditujukan bagi pemakai yang sering bepergian, memiliki bobot kurang dari 2 kg.Selain bobot, kategori tersebut biasanya juga dibedakan berdasarkan lebar layar yang dimiliki notebook. Di kelas desktop replacement, notebook hadir dengan layar antara 15" -17" inchi. Untuk kelas-kelas mainsteam, biasanya hadir dengan layar 14,1" - 15" inchi dan notebook-notebook ultraportabel mengusung layar 12,1".

Semakin ringan bobot sebuah notebook, tentu semakin nyaman dibawa berpergian. Akan tetapi notebook yang sangat ringan biasanya juga mencatat sejumlah kekurangan, seperti harganya yang lebih mahal, tidak adanya drive terintegrasi, dan layar yang lebih kecil. Prosesor yang tepat

Seperti halnya ketika memilih PC desktop, prosesor juga menjadi kekuatan utama dalam mengukur kinerja sebuah notebook. Saat ini sebagian besar vendor menawarkan penggunaan prossesor Pentium M yang dalam frekuensi yang sama mampu menghasilkan kinerja yang lebih tinggi dibandingkan Pentium 4. Keuntungan lain Pentium M dibandingkan prossesor desktop adalah penggunaan daya yang lebih rendah.Pentium M muncul dalam dua versi hemat daya, yaitu low-voltage (LV) dan ultra low-voltage (ULV) . Jika sering berpergian, kita dapat memilih notebook ultraportabel yang menggunakan Pentium M ULV untuk lebih menghemat daya.

Harddisk dan Media Penyimpanan Eksternal

Notebook-notebook terbaru muncul dengan kapasitas hardisk minimal 30 GB. Mengingat upgrade harddisk pada notebook lebih sulit dan lebih mahal dibandingkan pada PC desktop, perlu dipertimbangkan kapasitas harddisk dengan kebutuhan dan jenis pekerjaan sebelum membeli.Untuk kebutuhan aplikasi office, kapasitas 30 GB atau 40 GB sudah sangat mencukupi. Namun tidak ada salahnya menyiapkan kapasitas cadangan jika kebutuhan untuk penyimpanan cukup besar. Untuk kebutuhan penyimpanan yang sangat besar, beberapa notebook, di kelas all-in-one menawarkan kapasitas standar 80GB - 120GB.Di kelas mainstream dan ultraportabel, sebagian besar notebook menggunakan harddisk berkecepatan 4200rpm atau 5400rpm, sedangkan kelas desktop replacement menggunakan kecepatan 7200rpm. Jika notebook banyak menggunakan aplikasi yang berat seperti video editing, sebaiknya pilih kecepatan tertinggi, yakni 7200rpm.

Jika sebelumnya CD-ROM drive menjadi fasilitas standar, kini beberapa notebook terbaru menyertakan DVD/CD-RW combo drive sebagai kelengkapan standar. DVD/CD-RW combo memungkinkan kita membaca DVD dan membaca serta menulis CD. kita juga dapat menggantinya dengan DVD-RW yang memunginkan kita membaca dan menulis DVD. Tersedia juga beberapa model notebook yang menawarkan DVD multiformat yang dapat menangani teknologi DVD-R dan DVD-W.Dalam upaya menekan bobot notebook semakin ringan, biasanya para vendor mengeluarkan drive CD/DVD sebagai kelengkapan eksternal. Keuntungannya, kita bisa meninggalkan drive tersebut jika tidak merasa perlu membawanya. Namun, jika notebook lebih banyak digunakan saat berpergian, sebaiknya sedikit mengalah dengan bobot dengan memilih drive yang terintegrasi.

Semakin banyak port koneksi yang tersedia tentu semakin luas kesempatan menghubungkan notebook kita dengan berbagai perangkat yang lain dan dunia luar. Notebook biasanya menyediakan pilihan port yang lebih banyak dan lebih lengkap dibandingkan notebook di kelas ultraportabel.Port USB 2.0 sudah menjadi koneksi standar untuk menghubungkan printer, Webcam, scanner, mouse, FireWire (EEE 1394) belum menjadi fasilitas standar, tetapi mulai banyak di temukan pada notebook-notebook terbaru. FireWire yang menjanjikan kecepatan transfer data tinggi data tinggi (400Mbps) ini sangat bermanfaat untuk transfer file-file besar, seperti image dan video dari kamera digital atau camcorder.

Feature komunikasi juga menjadi salah satu yang patut diperhatikan. Hampir semua notebook terbaru telah menyediakan interface jaringan, baik jaringan Ethernet maupun W-LAN. How to Bypass BIOS Passwords

BIOS passwords can add an extra layer of security for desktop and laptop computers. They are used to either prevent a user from changing the BIOS settings or to prevent the PC from booting without a password. Unfortunately, BIOS passwords can also be a liability if a user forgets their password, or changes the password to intentionally lock out the corporate IT department. Sending the unit back to the manufacturer to have the BIOS reset can be expensive and is usually not covered in the warranty. Never fear, all is not lost. There are a few known backdoors and other tricks of the trade that can be used to bypass or reset the BIOS

Please remember that most BIOS passwords do not protect the hard drive, so if you need to recover the data, simply remove the hard drive and install it in an identical system, or configure it as a slave drive in an existing system. The exception to this are laptops, especially IBM Thinkpads, which silently lock the hard drive if the supervisor password is enabled. If the supervisor password is reset without resetting the and hard drive as well, you will be unable to access the data on the drive.

Backdoor passwords

Many BIOS manufacturers have provided backdoor passwords that can be used to access the BIOS setup in the event you have lost your password. These passwords are case sensitive, so you may wish to try a variety of combinations. Keep in mind that the key associated to "_" in the US keyboard corresponds to "?" in some European keyboards. Laptops typically have better BIOS security than desktop systems, and we are not aware of any backdoor passwords that will work with name brand laptops.

WARNING: Some BIOS configurations will lock you out of the system completely if you type in an incorrect password more than 3 times. Read your manufacturers documentation for the BIOS setting before you begin typing in passwords

Using the Motherboard "Clear CMOS" Jumper or Dipswitch settings

Many motherboards feature a set of jumpers or dipswitches that will clear the CMOS and wipe all of the custom settings including BIOS passwords. The locations of these jumpers / dipswitches will vary depending on the motherboard manufacturer and ideally you should always refer to the motherboard or computer manufacturers documentation. If the documentation is unavailable, the jumpers/dipswitches can sometimes be found along the edge of the motherboard, next to the CMOS battery, or near the processor. Some manufacturers may label the jumper / dipswitch CLEAR - CLEAR CMOS - CLR - CLRPWD - PASSWD - PASSWORD - PWD. On laptop computers, the dipswitches are usually found under the keyboard or within a compartment at the bottom of the laptop.
Please remember to unplug your PC and use a grounding strip before reaching into your PC and touching the motherboard. Once you locate and rest the jumper switches, turn the computer on and check if the password has been cleared. If it has, turn the computer off and return the jumpers or dipswitches to its original position.

Removing the CMOS Battery

The CMOS settings on most systems are buffered by a small battery that is attached to the motherboard. (It looks like a small watch battery). If you unplug the PC and remove the battery for 10-15 minutes, the CMOS may reset itself and the password should be blank. (Along with any other machine specific settings, so be sure you are familiar with manually reconfiguring the BIOS settings before you do this.) Some manufacturers backup the power to the CMOS chipset by using a capacitor, so if your first attempt fails, leave the battery out (with the system unplugged) for at least 24 hours. Some batteries are actually soldered onto the motherboard making this task more difficult. Unsoldering the battery incorrectly may damage your motherboard and other components, so please don't attempt this if you are inexperienced. Another option may be to remove the CMOS chip from the motherboard for a period of time.
Note: Removing the battery to reset the CMOS will not work for all PC's, and almost all of the newer laptops store their BIOS passwords in a manner which does not require continuous power, so removing the CMOS battery may not work at all. IBM Thinkpad laptops lock the hard drive as well as the BIOS when the supervisor password is set. If you reset the BIOS password, but cannot reset the hard drive password, you may not be able to access the drive and it will remain locked, even if you place it in a new laptop. IBM Thinkpads have special jumper switches on the motherboard, and these should be used to reset the system.

Overloading the KeyBoard Buffer

On some older computer systems, you can force the CMOS to enter its setup screen on boot by overloading the keyboard buffer. This can be done by booting with the keyboard or mouse unattached to the systems, or on some systems by hitting the ESC key over 100 times in rapid succession.

Using a professional service

If the manufacturer of the laptop or desktop PC can't or won't reset the BIOS password, you still have the option of using a professional service. Password Crackers, Inc., offers a variety of services for desktop and laptop computers for between $100 and $400. For most of these services, you'll need to provide some type of legitimate proof of ownership. This may be difficult if you've acquired the computer second hand or from an online auction.

Jumping the Solder Beads on the CMOS

It is also possible to reset the CMOS by connecting or "jumping" specific solder beads on the chipset. There are too many chipsets to do a breakdown of which points to jump on individual chipsets, and the location of these solder beads can vary by manufacturer, so please check your computer and motherboard documentation for details. This technique is not recommended for the inexperienced and should be only be used as a "last ditch" effort.

First the safety rules

The inside of a computer is a bad place full of electricity and sharp edges.
On the electricity side always when working on you computer make sure that it's still plugged in to the power socket and the power is turned off, this is to ensure that any static
From you is discharged through the earth. The inside of most computer cases are unfinished metal and has very sharp edges so be careful.

The first signs of a battery failing are:-

1) your clock starts running slowly
2) when you boot (start) your computer it has a problem finding your hardware (no hard drive, no cd rom)

To change the battery you need the following tools

1) a X-point screwdriver
2) an anti-static strap(optional)
3) a new battery (seems logical)

Then unplug all the cables from the back of the computer as you remove them make a note where they came from. (So when you finished you can put them back)

Move the computer somewhere where you can work on it with ease

Remove the cover by locating the screws around the outer edge (back) of the computer
Some computer cases only require you to remove 2 screws on one side then a panel can be removed allowing you access to the computers insides, others you must remove 6 screws and remove the whole case by sliding it to the rear and lifting it off.

Now make sure that you read the safety instructions about static.
Look inside you will see a round silver thing that looks about the size of a 10p piece (quarter). This is the battery itself, carefully lift the retaining clip and slide the battery out. That's it removed now go to your local computer retailer, electrical retailer (Tandy/Radio shack) taking the old battery with you and get a new battery.

Back to your computer insert the new battery by lifting the clip and sliding the battery in.

Reinstall your case and plug all the cables back (you did remember to label them didn't you)

Now for the fun part.

You will now need to go into you bios….

Right the bios is the god of your computer.

To access it, when your computer first starts you will see a black screen with white text.

If you look carefully you will see a line that says something like "press del for setup" or some other key (F2 or ESC or tab) this will take you to god's house where you can make lots of changes to the way your machine works.

It is also the place where you can make your nice computer in to a rather expensive door stop so be careful and don't go playing with anything.

You will now be presented with a blue screen with a lot of options on it,

Press the F10 key and type y the computer should now reboot.

If every thing went well then your computer will now be up and running.

Struktur dasar HTML

HTML (Hypert Text Markup Language) merupakan bahasa pemrograman yang digunakan dalam pembuatan halaman web. Dalam penggunaannya sebagian besar kode HTML tersebut harus terletak di antara tag kontainer. Yaitu diawali dengan <namatag> dan diakhiri dengan </namatag> (terdapat tanda "/").

Sebuah halaman web minimal mempunyai empat buat tag, yaitu :

<HTML> Sebagai tanda awal dokumen HTML.

<HEAD> Sebagai informasi page header. Di dalam tag ini kita bisa meletakkan tag-tag TITLE, BASE, ISINDEX, LINK, SCRIPT, STYLE & META.

<TITLE> Sebagai titel atau judul halaman. Kalimat yang terletak di dalam tag ini akan muncul pada bagian paling atas browser Anda (pada title bar).

Pengaturan Teks

Untuk mendapatkan halaman web yang baik Anda harus melakukan pengaturan terhadap teks seperti memilih jenis dan ukuran huruf, perataan, dll. Tag-tag di bawah ini yang biasa digunakan dalam pengaturan teks :

Headers: <Hn>..</Hn> Digunakan untuk mengatur ukuran huruf pada header. "n" mempunyai nilai antara 1 - 6 atau antara <H1> sampai <H6>, dengan <H1> merupakan ukuran terbesar dan <H6> merupakan ukuran terkecil.

Paragraph Baru: <P> Digunakan untuk pindah alinea atau paragraf. Tag ini bisa diberi akhiran </P> tapi juga bisa tidak diberi.

No Line Break: <NOBR> Bila digunakan tag ini maka teks yang panjang tidak secara otomatis pindah baris bawahnya bila baris pertama sudah terlalu panjang.

Font <FONT> Untuk mendefinisikan berbagai attribut FONT, yaitu : SIZE, FACE, COLOR.

SIZE: Ukuran font yang digunakan, berkisar antara 1 - 7 dengan 1 merupakan ukuran terkecil dan 7 merupakan ukuran terbesar.

FACE: Jenis atau nama font. Anda bisa memilih maksimal 3 jenis font yang masing-masing dipisahkan oleh koma. Bila terdapat spasi yang terletak pada nama font maka harus digunakan tanda garis bawah ( _ ). Dalam memilih jenis font ini harus dipertimbangkan apakah font yang kita gunakan pada halaman web kita nantinya akan terdapat pada komputer pengguna yang lain (pengakses web kita). Pendeknya kita tidak usah menggunakan font-font yang bentuknya aneh-aneh, gunakan saja font standar. Tapi bila Anda ingin menggunakan font yang sedikit "aneh" Anda bisa menggunakan graphic.

COLOR: Warna font, didefinisikan dengan menggunakan nilai RGB/HEX atau bisa juga langsung menggunakan nama warna (red misalnya).

Tabel

Tabel sangat penting artinya dalam desain web. Karena dengan menggunakan tag table Anda dapat membuat halaman web "terbagi" pada beberapa kolom atau baris. Contohnya seperti pada halaman web yang sedang Anda baca ini.

Terdapat tiga tag atau elemen utama yang digunakan dalam pembuatan table : <TABLE>, <TR>, dan <TD>. Yang perlu diingat adalah bahwa tab <TR> dan <TD> harus terletak di antara tag <TABLE> dan </TABLE>

Install A New Hard-disk

Running out of hard disk space, yet also want to keep all the files that are currently on the system in perfect order? Install an extra hard disk, and see your available space rise!

Firstly, make backups of your existing system files. You may never know when these may come in handy. If your current hard disk may go down the pan, you'll be glad to have something to start with again. Also, if you want to use all your data that is on this drive, back it up anyway; ready to be transferred to the new drive. Also, create a system disk for your PC. This can be created by going to Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs, and then the "System Disk" tab. The instructions should be there for you. "WHEN I INSTALLED MY EXTRA HDD I DDNT FOLLOW ANY OF THE ABOVE MENTIONED....INSTEAD JUST OPEANED THE CABINET AND LOOKED FOR THE WIRES AND CONNECTED THEM ...ANY ONE CAN TELL WHERE THE CORRECT WIRE GOES ..... THE MAIN THING IS TO MAKE SURE THAT THE BROAD THIN GRAY WIRE OR DATA CABLE SLOT WITH THE WORD 'P2' IS CONNECTED TO THE EXTRA HDD"

Once you are prepared on the software side, turn off your PC and open the case to your PC (Please take proper precautions at this point. Anti-static wristbands and other such devices should be used. If you don't have these, just make sure you are properly earthed, and know what you are going to do. Oh, and please turn off the PC properly. I don't want you dying on me, literally!). The hard disk is the metal box shaped thing that is either the size of the floppy drive or it could be the size of the CD-Rom drive. It should be easy to spot, because it might even say "Hard Disk" on it. At this point, look and see where you can put the new drive, and how you are going to connect it up. If there is no hard drive in there, then don't worry; I'll explain how to connect it up as well.

Look at the end of the HDD. It should have a load of sockets and pins for you to play around with. At one point, you should be able to see some pins with some jumpers attached, and a sticker on another side telling you what configuration of jumper positions means what to the computer. If you are attaching it to the same IDE cable as your existing drive, then set it to "Slave", otherwise, select "Master" and fit it as close to the start of the cable as possible (The start of the cable being where it's connected to the motherboard). This cable is an "IDE" cable, and can only be fitted two ways to the drive itself. Look for an indication as to which side pin number 1 is (Look for stickers again!) and insert the IDE cable in that socket and pins, with the red side as close to pin 1 as possible. Then, just fit it into the computer, as you would do any other drive (For the thickies, which means attaching it to the case using the mounting screws that should come with the PC. Before you do this though, note down the extra information on the top of the drive, usually the number of cylinders, heads, sectors, and any other information. Next, connect one of the power cables to the HDD (These are the 4 cable collections with connectors attached, which leads from the power supply unit), and close the PC case.

Next, you will have to mess with CMOS. Turn on the PC, and hit whatever key you are told to at the bootup to get to the CMOS menus. When in there, choose the relevant section (We can't say exactly, because there are many different CMOS set-ups around) and select "IDE Auto-detection". If the hard disk does not appear on it, then you will have to enter the information manually. Use the notes you collected from the top of the hard disk earlier to tell the computer what the hard disk is.

IMPORTANT:
Afterwards, insert the system disk("THE BACKUP DISK THAT CAN BE CREATED BY RIGHT CLICKING A DRIVE4R AND SELECTING FORMAT AND THEN THE CREATE BACKUP DISK OPT") prepared earlier and "Save" your editing of the CMOS and exit. The system disk should work instead of the original hard disk (Or if you are installing from scratch, then it will boot from the A: anyway).
Type "fdisk" at the dos prompt. This runs a program called, surprisingly, FDISK. Tell the computer which drive ie the harddisk is the new one (Please choose the correct one at this point. Make a mistake, and you really could be using those backups!), and then tell it what partitions you want (Don't worry about it, as there are full instructions while you are running the program). Once this is done, you can reset your PC (Except if this drive is being installed from scratch and is on it's own. If this is the case, then you can format the drive by typing "format c:" This will format the drive for you, but what's really good is if you type "format c: /s" instead, as this installs some important files at the same time. Then, just follow the instructions to install whatever OS you are going to use.)
If you are adding this drive as a second HDD, Go into Windows (Or any other OS, but the instructions may be different!) and then format from "My Computer" like you would a floppy disk. There you go: A newly installed hard disk, with minimum effort!....and dont take the risk of formatting any of the drives u know!!!! if in doubt contact me here or don't do at all........."SOD will not be held responsible for any data lost in this process"

How to speed Up HTTP Requests On Internet Explorer

To comply with current Internet standards, Internet Explorer limits the number of simultaneous downloads to two downloads, plus one queued download. This configuration is a function of the browser. However, as connection speeds increase, and the number of total connections that are allowed to Internet servers increase, the two-connection limit may be restrictive.

Please Note: Changing the maximum number of connections beyond two is a violation of Internet standards; use at your own risk!

To increase the number of simultaneous connections that are allowed, follow these steps:

1. Start the Registry Editor
2. Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Internet Settings
3. Select New > DWORD Value from the Edit menu
4. Name the new value MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server
5. Right-click the MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server value and choose Modify
6. Under Base, click the radio button next to Decimal
7. In the Value Data: box enter the number of simultaneous connections you want to set (for example 10 is a good value), and 8. click OK
9. Repeat steps 3 - 7 using the new value MaxConnectionsPerServer
10. Exit the registry editor

How To Speed Up A Slow Computer

first off in the bottom right hand corner of your computer if you see alot of icons start up there when you first start your computer then this is for you if you dont know already how to get rid of em.

Press your Start Button (bottom left) and go to "run"
now type in: msconfig
now you will get a box that pops up and will tell you bunch of stuff dont mess with anything else other than what I tell you otherwise you could do something really bad (possible) go to your "startup" tab on the top right of the screen where it usually is and click it.

Now you will have a closed in box with bunch of filenames n addresses and more boxes with checks in them. Now if your like me you dont want anything startin up when you start you computer up or while your even doing anything cause it slows you down. Now unless your like me right now 1 have 1 thing starting up when my computer starts up and thats my settin for my overclocked vid card. But other than that uncheck every box and then hit apply and ok. Then window you were jus in will now close and ask you if you want to restart or wait till later to restart.

Either way when you shut it off and then turn it back on the settins will kick in
